Hey folks,
Anyone have some examples and info regarding Mandolin in the Blues?
Someone had asked me this recently, and I only have 2 vague examples:
I know a little of "Louie Bluey" I believe he's specifically a Mandolin player isn't he?
And I've got some recordings of Sleepy John Estes with some Mandolin on a few track, and I think he's playing.
I'm well familiar with Mandolin in the BluegrassAppalachian, as well as Celtic etc... but I'm curious is to where and how the Mandolin worked it's way into some Blues.

Re: Mandolin
Fri, June 30, 2006 - 10:13 AMA few days ago I found this video of Robert Johnson's "Love in Vain" by Jim Richter on mandolin and Gordon Bonham on guitar.
www.youtube.com/watch
Apart from that, I don't think I've ever heard blues played on the mandolin.

Re: Mandolin
Fri, August 18, 2006 - 11:18 AMHello Eric,
I’ve a CD called ‘Blues & Grass’ by The 52nd Street Blues Project (James Blood Ulmer, Charlie Burnham, Queen Esther et al). Burnham plays mandolin on the bluestracks (10. I’m Goin’, 11. Papa Don’t Know and 12. Sunnyland) . He plays mainly violin but also a bit of mandolin on track 3. Recess, which sounds less bluesy and more grassy. I don´t know whether Ulmer, Burnham and Queen Esther continued to work together. if they did, you´ll definitely have mandolin in the blues.
