I was wondering if anyone has any info regarding a harp player/singer called Little Sammy Davis?
I recently saw him perform with Levon Helm in Woodstock, NY......I was quite impressed by him and I'm trying to find out as much about Sammy and possible recordings of his

Re: Little Sammy Davis
Mon, June 12, 2006 - 12:07 PMI've never heard of him.
What's Levon's band like, and was it Blues they were playing, or a mix of different music?
I've always liked The Band, I'm curious as to what Levon's doing now.

Re: Little Sammy Davis
Mon, June 12, 2006 - 10:06 PMThe show was excellent. It was held at Levon's home/studio in Woodstock. It was a mixture of blues, country, gospel, rock and folk. He had quite an extended lineup which included Sammy Davis, Jimmy Vivino, James Wormworth, Mike Merritt, his own daughter Amy Helm......and special guest John Sebastian. They played songs like "Atlantic City", "Don't Ya Tell Henry", "Lordy Mama", "I Don't Want To Hang Up My Rock'n'Roll Shoes", "Fannie Mae", "I'm Ready", "The Shape I'm In", "It Takes A Lot To Laugh...", "Crash On The Levee (Down In The Flood)" and "When The Battle Is Over". Levon was in fine voice (yes, his voice is back) and his playing is better than ever! There are two brand new releases out, called "Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble Sessions" Volumes 1 and 2--you can get them in special edition CD/DVD combo packages. Check out his website: www.levonhelm.com

Re: Little Sammy Davis
Sat, August 19, 2006 - 9:51 PMI've seen Little Sammy Davis quite a few times.
He is absolutely stunning live.
He has a couple CD's out.
The one easiest to find is "I ain't Lyin". You can find that on amazon or anywhere on the net.
He has a few others, but they're more difficult to find. (Yes, I have them.)
He occassionally plays www.bodles.com/ and www.cornerstage.com/
He also plays festivals, and, as you said, plays with Levon Helm.
He's going to be at Corner Stage on Sep 1.
I caught him last year playing a solo set then joined on stage with Bo Diddley in Poughkeepsie.
It's amazing that so few people no about him.
You can find more thru google.
Hope this helped.
