Mon, February 6, 2006 - 3:24 PMI totally disagree with you. Imho blues isn't about complaining, its about coping and improving your situation. If I'm down and I sing some blues, I feel better. If I do it with other muso's I feel better still. Often the lyrics are about how the writer is going to get over the current problems, whether that be jumping a freight train, killing the boss or the old lady.
Music is a way of getting out of the rut, especially when you have few options. You can chain my bones, but you can't kill my spirit. -

The blues: just a good man feeling down, right? The blues makes me feel completely alive in that it acknowledges so many different aspects of every-day living, from being sad to being horny to being pissed off, to being elated.

It's about real life experiences, pain, hardship, shit so deep you have to swim in it and how to get to the other side. AKA your pretty little blue skies. I feel sorry for people like you...when real tragedy hits you're not going to know your pretty little name, never mind how to deal with it.
The blues is about feeling good not wallowing in self indulged pity. It's about what happens to people and having the ability to indentify and enjoy the real good times. Sometimes life comes at you in all different directions. Maybe you want to come out from that cozy little rock you've been living under and live a bit.
